The Machine
An overview so that everyone can see what we’re working with here…
My desktop machine is a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop PC. The CPU is a 2.0 GHz Pentium IV with a 400 MHz bus speed. The original hard drive the PC came with was a Maxtor 40 GB labeled in windows as drive C and I’ve since added a new Western Digital 250 GB hard drive as the primary drive.
The machine came with 256 MB of RDRAM which I have since upgraded to 768 MB. The video card is an Nvidia GeForce3 card with 64 MB of on-board memory.
There are two optical drives - a DVD Rom and a semi-functional 40x-24x-40x CD-RW drive. I also have a 3.5 inch floppy drive which has never worked. There are two USB ports in the front, two in the back and all are USB v1.1.
The only piece of new technology is my 22″ Samsung widescreen monitor, my 4 GB iPod and my Palm Z22. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
